➤Fraud Alert – Vertrue Incorporated Fraudulent free credit report online
A ruling by a Polk County judge means you may have some money coming to you. Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller filed a consumer fraud lawsuit against Vertrue Incorporated.
Last week, a Polk County judge ruled the Connecticut company used deceptive practices to convince about a half million Iowans to pay $36 million to enroll in so-called ” buying clubs. ” Miller says Vertrue billed enrollees $10 to $20 a month, continuously on their credit cards.
A Des Moines woman says she fell victim to Vertrue by applying for a free credit report online. She says the unwanted charges showed up on 3 of her credit cards.
“I called up all the credit card companies saying I’m cancelling. So I got a letter from Vertrue saying I couldn’t do that…which was news to me…so I continued to get bills and the bills increased,” says victim Mary Grefe.
Miller says he’s now working to get Iowans their money back.
